We believe the King James Bible is the perfectly preserved, inspired Word of God and the final authority on all matters. It is the only Bible we use and from which we preach and teach.
We believe God represented Himself to man as a triune being – three persons unified in the Godhead: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe Jesus was born of a virgin, Mary. He had no earthly father, but Mary was overshadowed by the Holy Ghost to produce the God-man. If he had an earthly father, the inherited sinful nature of Adam would have been in Jesus, making it impossible for Him to be the sinless, perfect Saviour.
We believe all mankind is sinful, thus needing our Saviour for two reasons: first, because man is a sinner by his inherited nature; second, because man willfully commits sin.
We believe the Salvation which God offers through Jesus Christ’s finished work is free to all who believe they are sinners and that Christ is the Saviour. Repent of this and by faith in what God’s Word says, accept Jesus as personal Saviour. Not of works of any kind. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
We believe the new “Charismatic” movement of speaking with tongues, healing, etc. is false in the way it is portrayed today.
We believe the earth and all it contains in original creation was created by the Triune God of Heaven. No “big bang”, no evolution, no “gap” theory. Earth and man were created in six literal days.
We believe that as we live on this earth, there is only the local church. There is no invisible church, no universal church, and no denominational church. The local church is the body of Christ. It is completely autonomous.
We believe the next main event in the Bible calendar is what Baptists refer to as the “rapture” (this word is not a Bible word). It means a snatching away; a taking up quickly. Only born again saints of God (i.e. saved by the blood of Jesus Christ) will be called away to Heaven at this time (pre-tribulation).
We believe in old-fashioned fundamentalism and separation. We believe in separation from churches and religious organizations which do not believe in the fundamental doctrines of God’s Word, and separation from worldliness: dress, contemporary “Christian” music, “spiritual” dancing, “spiritual” laughter, and so called “spiritual” praise and worship.
We believe verbally witnessing to the unsaved is the command of God to every Christian. Witnessing verbally of the salvation of Jesus Christ is not a “gift” or a “ministry”, it is the command of God.
We, the members of this assembly, the body of Christ, being born again, led by the Holy Spirit, do band ourselves together for the purpose of worship, preaching, and teaching the Word of God, and to be free from the control of a denomination, do adopt for our government and Articles of Faith the following: to the end that lost people on the way to eternal punishment would be saved, that the saved will be rooted and grounded in the Faith, that we may provide an outlet for the saved to serve Christ through training, witnessing, soul winning efforts, financial support, and home and foreign missions. Matthew 28:18-20 & Acts 1:8, 20:19-32
The scriptures used to prove, describe, and give evidence to the following doctrines and belief are by no means exhausted or complete. This is not for in-depth study, but to show where and on what the Anchor Baptist Church stands.
THE BIBLE. We believe the scriptures, Old and New Testament, to be the perfectly preserved Word of God, and so take them for our rule of faith and practice; nothing to be added or taken from them. The authorized King James Version edition to be read and studied in our public services. II Timothy 3:16; II Peter 1:20, 21 & II Peter 3:15, 16; Rev. 22:18, 19 & Galatians 1: 8, 9
GOD THE FATHER. We believe in one true and living God, Creator of all things, heaven and earth, and all that is contained therein. We believe He exists in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Hebrews 1:1-3; John 4:24; Genesis 1:1 & I Peter 1:2; I John 5:7; Ephesians 4:1-6 & Matthew 3:16, 17; Deut. 6:4; Col. 2:9
JESUS CHRIST. We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who was in the beginning with God, born of the virgin Mary, conceived by the Holy Ghost, came into the world in a body of flesh, died on the cross to purchase our eternal redemption with His own blood. He is the only way. He rose again the third day, is now seated at the Father’s right hand and making intercession for the saints. We are expecting Him to appear at any moment to receive His bride; the blood washed, redeemed believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, to a place He is preparing. John 1:1-10, 14; I Cor. 15:1-4; Acts 1:1-11 & I Thess. 4:14-18; Galatians 4:4, 5 & Matthew 1:18-23; Romans 8:34 & I Peter 1:3-5, 18, 19
HOLY SPIRIT. We believe the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Ghost, reproves of sin, indwells the believer, seals the believer, and is guide to the believer and church in this world. He has the attributes of God. He is the agent in the new birth. Matthew 28:19; Mark 1:8 & Luke 1:35, 24-49; John 3:5, 6 & John 14:16, 17, 26; Acts 13:2, Eph. 1:13, 14
SATAN. We believe that Satan does exist as a real person. He was perfect in heaven. In pride he rebelled, was cast out and now he is the deceiver, wicked one, the father of those that commit sin. He is a liar and the enemy of God. His final doom is the lake of fire, eternal. Is. 14:12-24; Ez. 28:12-19; Job 1, 2 & Matthew 4:1-11; Luke 10:18; II Peter 2:4 & Jude 6; Rev. 20:10
SALVATION. We believe that because of Adam’s transgression, man is born a sinner. Man does not have the means to purchase eternal life through his own righteousness or works. He has nothing to offer. Jesus Christ paid the price of redemption with His own blood. It is now the responsibility of every individual to repent and accept Christ as their personal Saviour. The grace of God plus nothing.
A person must hear the gospel, be convicted of sin, repent, believe, and accept the Lord Jesus Christ in his heart and be born again. At this moment he is delivered from sin, freed from condemnation, made an heir of God, and placed in a state of security and has the assurance of God’s Word at that moment that he is saved for eternity to stand no more condemned with the world.
An individual must daily confess of sin in his life. He must turn from sin. The saved have an advocate in the person of Christ. The saved are not standing in jeopardy of their salvation, but are dealt with as children under the chastening hand of the Father. Romans 3:10, 23; 5:12; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9-13 & John 10:27, 28; Eph. 1:13, 14; Romans 8:17, 35-39 & I John 1:8-2:1; I Peter 1:5; Hebrews 9:12; 12:6
THE CHURCH AND ORDINANCES.
The church is composed of born again, baptized believers who unite together for the purpose of worship, edification, fellowship, spiritual growth, and spreading the gospel to the uttermost parts of the earth.
We believe the local church has absolute power of self government. Christ is the head; therefore, this church shall not come under the control of an association or ecclesiastical body.
We believe it is right for the church to cooperate with other churches that are fundamental Bible believers to promote the gospel and for fellowship as the Pastor sees fit, he being the spiritual leader.
We believe that there are two ordinances the church is to faithfully keep while we wait for the Lord’s return.
Baptism by immersion. Romans 6:1-13; I Peter 3:21; Matt. 28:19, 20
The Lord’s Supper. I Cor. 11:23, 24; Matt. 26:26-28 & Luke 17:19, 20; Mark 14:22-26
HELL. We believe hell is a literal place of torment, suffering pain, and fire and brimstone. We believe that at the time of death the sinner immediately enters this state. We believe that all those that are in hell will be brought before the Great White Throne judgment to be cast into the eternal lake of fire to be forever separated from God. Luke 16:19-31; Mark 9:43-48 & Rev. 20:10-15, 21:8
END TIME EVENTS.
Rapture. We believe that Christ will return at any moment to take the saints to be with Him. At this time those that have died in the Lord will come forth. We will meet in the air to ever be with Christ. I Cor. 15:51-53; I Thess. 4:13-18
Tribulation. After this, there will be seven years of tribulation, during which time God will be dealing with the Jews and gentile nations. Matt. 24:21, 22; Zeph. 1:15-18 & Daniel 12:1, 9:24-27; Jer. 30:5-7
One-thousand year reign of Christ. We believe that after this, Christ will return with the saints to begin 1,000 years of earthly reign during which time Satan will be bound. Satan will be loosed for a little season when the 1,000 years are complete. He will deceive many and there will be a final battle. Next those of all ages that have died in unbelief will come forth to stand before the Great White Throne to be judged and cast into an eternal lake of fire. Acts 15:14-17; Is. 2:1-4, 11:6-9 & Rev. 19:11-21, 20:1-6
Final destination of all mankind. We believe that every soul from Adam until the Great White Throne will enter eternity, either heaven and eternal bliss or the lake of fire and eternal punishment. John 3:14-36, 18:2, 3 & II Cor. 5:8; Rev. 20:11-15
CONDUCT OF A CHRISTIAN
We believe that a born again person should be baptized, join a Bible believing church, and separate from the world. We should not look like the world nor act like the world. We must strive in our lives to be Christ like and conduct ourselves so as not to bring reproach upon the name of Christ. Our lives should be a mirror to reflect His glory. II Cor. 3:18
The Bible teaches we should not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. II Cor. 6:14-17
Therefore, we believe that we should abstain from the very appearance of evil, even the use of alcoholic beverages, smoking, dancing, gambling, worldly movies, mixed swimming, clothing: especially shorts, which is enticing to the opposite sex and any other form of grooming or dress that may hurt our testimony or tend to support the ungodly movements of our day.
We believe we should abstain from union with the world in organizations, lodges, clubs, marriage, and other churches who do not believe and teach the fundamental doctrines of the faith.
There are liberal and modern groups which are joining hands with such. We believe it is a sin to support or bid Godspeed to any such movements. Therefore we will not support or affiliate with the World Council of Churches, the National Counsel of Churches or any other group that is liberal or modernistic in belief. (To be determined by God’s Word and the pastor)
MISSIONS. We believe in missions and the support of such as are sound in the Bible doctrines set forth in this constitution. A statement from each missionary will be kept on file showing that he embraces the doctrine of this church. This is to be renewed each year.
FINANCIAL SUPPORT OF THE LOCAL CHURCH. We believe the Bible teaches tithing and offering as a means to support God’s work. Mal. 3:8-10; II Cor. 8:1-5 & Luke 11:42; I Cor. 16:2
